Director's Message

Rising and Thriving

Dear Varnett East Family,

Welcome back to school students, parents and staff.

I am excited to welcome the Varnett East family back to a new school year. I hope you enjoyed a safe and wonderful summer. Even with the COVID-19 pandemic, we are looking forward to a safe partnership with parents in order to make this school year as meaningful and joyful as possible while advancing learning with a targeted focus on all of our students. I welcome and value your positive energy as we thrive to rise and provide excellence in all things in education. The students showed tremendous growth in state and local assessments and l look forward to continuing the trend at all grades.

Student attendance and active engagement are mandatory as we thrive to provide a rigorous and high academic educational program for all of our students. We will work together to support social-emotional learning through our counseling department, whose mission is to build joyful learning activities to ensure that students excel with grade-level curriculum content.

Each year brings positive changes. We welcome Ms. Yolanda Walker, our new 6th grade ELA teacher who transferred from the Southwest campus. Ms. Yolonda Williams transitioned with her students from 3rd grade to 4th grade, ELA. The English as a Second Language (ESL) department welcomes Ms. Sara Cruz as a teacher’s assistant who attended and graduated from the East campus when she was in the 5th grade.

I look forward to another fantastic and productive year. Our East Varnett staff have attended beginning-of-the-year professional development to help them plan and develop lessons for your children. I am excited to see how much our students will rise and thrive in the upcoming school year.

Ms. Gayle Voltz
East Campus Director
