A math problem challenges students in this video
“Carnival Math Night” at The Varnett School East brought out 160 parents and students Wednesday night.
Every grade level, including the English as a Second Language (ESL) department, had a variety of math games for the guests to enjoy. The number cups game was one of my favorites, but of course, I lost two times. The object of the game is put out of order cups (20) in order from greatest to least. The first person to achieve this is the winner. I plan on practicing for the next "Game Night."
Wells Fargo, the banking institution, joined us as a community supporter. Ms. Yanelle Nunez, a customer service representative for the bank, brought financial banking information and gifts for parents who were interested in her services. She had many visitors and 15 parents signed up for banking interests.
The students enjoyed winning prizes and snacked on popcorn as a math carnival treat. I saw many students focused on solving multiplication, addition, subtraction, fractional and time problems. It was a fun learning experience for all ages.
The event was designed to help students explore math at their own levels through games and activities. It involves families in a fun, enjoyable shared math experience.

Thank you, students and parents, for attending our “Carnival Math Night!" All students received a free dress down day pass for the next day.
I hope to see you soon at our next educational extravaganza.
