Rain fails to thwart strong turnout for East Campus carnival

The East Campus carnival went on without a hitch Saturday. A few or a lot of raindrops did not stop us from having a fantastic time. We moved our carnival inside and had quite a few people show up for the gruesome “Insane Asylum” and numerous games to delight our crowd.

The face art, tattoo parlor and nail shop had long lines of customers waiting for service. PTO president Ms. Garcia, and vice president, Mrs. Jackson snapped 77 festive pictures at the pumpkin patch display that was a hit with  families.

We had a great turnout. There were former students who came to check out the haunted house.  There were students and staff from Northeast and Southwest campuses. And we have guests from the neighborhood. Our parent liaison, Ms. Martinez, passed out flyers prior to the carnival to neighboring stores and apartments.

We had a variety of refreshments to serve our patrons. Everyone enjoyed fajita plates, hamburger and hotdog plates, tacos, snow cones, popcorn, Frito-pies, sodas, water, Capri-suns and a specialty chocolate drink. The guests traded white tickets,  won from playing games, for goodies,  from our prize booth.

The multi-purpose room hosted games, a DJ who spun the latest hits while the guests and staff danced the latest dances. The students enjoyed playing air hockey against our P.E. coach Mr. De Leon.  It was a grand time at East Campus.

The Houston Fire Department brought a truck for display as students posed behind the wheel and learned about fire prevention and safety.

I would like to thank all who came out to volunteer, staff members and their families. I also thank the students and parents along with those who attended and joined in for a great experience at East Campus.

Sincerely,

Ms. Gayle Voltz- Director
