Christmas Around the World

On Wednesday, December 17, Varnett's East Campus parents started their tour of our 17 countries with a passport. There was excitement in the air as students in each classroom introduced their chosen country’s traditions to their family members.

The teachers and students entertained their guests with arts and crafts, singing and dancing and poems. Some classes shared a short historical script of about their country with the parents. I was so amazed with the talent in each class. Students sang Christmas songs in their country’s language. There was a piano recital by 2nd-grader Kailey Garza in the classroom of France. I saw one student from India who flawlessly sang a Venezuelan song in Spanish.

The pre-kinder and kinder students had so much fun making Christmas ornaments and musical instruments. I saw dance performances from several classes and even joined in with the dancing.

Dr. Stroud, Varnett's interim superintendent, and Mrs. Smith, the district business manager, toured our 17 countries and collected stickers to place in their passport.

Refreshments were served in the cafeteria. On display at each table were paper Christmas trees designed and created by  5th grader Bryan Ortiz . The parents enjoyed the hot chocolate and cookies. We had a packed house for the turkey and ham raffle giveaway. Six families had the winning numbers and went home with a turkey or ham.

Overall, I truly enjoyed the 100% student participation and we had over 165 families attend Wednesday's “Christmas Around the World."

Thank you all who came to share the holiday spirit.

Ms. Voltz
East Campus director
