Second-graders bring cards, entertainment to health care residents

On Thursday, March 27, 2014, second-graders from East Campus took a trip to the Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation facility on Wallisville Road in East Houston.

This facility has 125 beds and 30 years of experience. We chose this facility because of its guiding principles: patient first, respect, integrity and stewardship.

The students performed the song Rockin Robin by Bobby Day, a 50’s song. The students also made spring cards for the residents to brighten up their day. This made the residents smile.

Activity director Shameka Lawrence and assistant Carol Young, took the students to deliver the cards from room to room. The students knocked on the door and announced "activity" before handing the residents the cards. Some of the residents were sleeping so the students left the cards on the table.

The students made the cards themselves as part of their community service project.
