Celebrating the 100th day of school is a time to have fun with the number 100 as well as teach children how to count to 100.
As a take home project, our Prek teachers decided it would be a fun activity to get parents involved with helping their child count to 100. The point of this project was for each child to collect 100 items and display any objects on a poster board. For example, students glued 100 feathers, Cheerios or even placed 100 stickers that were displayed in the Prek hallway.
As part of our 100-day celebration, which came on Feb. 4, we also asked our students to dress up as if they were 100 years old. Many students dressed the part and enjoyed the activities. For example, some activities throughout the day consisted of counting to 100 by exercising, creating a tower by using 100 cups, creating hats with 100 stickers and making a chain that all Prek students connected.
Meanwhile, second graders from Ms. Joseph's and Ms. Pastor-Castillo's classrooms picked their favorite 100-day posters, drew their images, wrote descriptive essays and gave short presentations to their peers.
To end our 100-day celebration, we had our Prek students put on their march in a parade to show the hard work they have done so far. This milestone celebration was a success not only for our students but for our teachers. We look forward to more 100-day celebrations.
