It was nearly a full day of entertainment as East Campus presented three Christmas programs Wednesday in front of enthusiastic parents and staff.
The performances were a continuation of the environmental theme that earned the campus a first-place award in the Christmas tree decoration contest.
PreK students launched the activities with dancing and the singing of “It’s Christmas Time,” “Last Christmas,” “ Donde Esta Santa Claus,” “All I Need is Love,” “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
The auditorium was filled with parents who eagerly snapped pictures of their children and showered them with applause.
Kindergarten and 1st grade students followed with colorful performances of their own before the 2nd through 5th graders took the stage. Fourth-grade students conducted a play called “Saving the North Pole,” and 3rd grade students sang and danced in honor of polar bears and penguins, which were key elements to the campus Christmas tree decoration contest.
Fifth-grader Jacqueline Saucedo was the mistress of ceremony for the PreK and Kindergarten-1st grade production and was assisted by student DaJanelle Hughes for the 2nd through 5th grade performances.
Dr. M. Annette Cluff, Varnett’s superintendent, thanked the parents for showing up and used the occasion to explain that the district is reviewing its safety policies in the wake of the mass shootings Friday at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school. She asked parents to be patient when they are asked to show their ID and told them to expect some changes in safety procedures when their children return to school from their holiday break.
Happy Holiday season to all and have a Happy New Year.
