About 130 parents and children packed the East Campus multi-purpose room Tuesday night as director Gayle Voltz set the tone for the 2012-2013 school year.
Ms. Voltz highlighted key points contained in the Parent Handbook, copies of which were given to parents to take home and study. She discussed the dress code, attendance and tardy procedures, parent and community involvement, field trips and the discipline policy. Ms. Estrada, the ESL aide, provided the Spanish translation.
Members of the audience broke into applause when told that school bus transportation for field trips will be free, except when they are to areas outside the Houston city limits.

Several teachers were on hand to meet-and-greet the parents and distribute the 37-page handbooks. “Your children’s education is my No. 1 priority,” Ms. Voltz told the group. “I see your children as my children. I want to provide the best education possible to help your children succeed in the future”
Ms. Voltz said Wednesday she was pleased with the parent turnout. “It shows they are very committed to their children’s educational welfare,” she said.
For those who do not have handbooks, pick up a copy at your child's campus.
