Campus celebrates holidays with a "candy" theme

The East Campus Christmas program had a “Varnett Candy Store” theme to mark three festive performances for audience members.

Pre-K students launched the show with dancing and singing to such standards as “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town,” “Must Be Santa,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Drummer Boy,” “That’s What Christmas Means to Me,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and “Mambo Santa Mambo.” Fifth-grade student Melvin Cuba did a great job as  master of ceremony as he announced the program in both English and Spanish. Jennifer Nava did the welcoming.

Next up were the kindergarten and first grade students who entertained to the songs “Felix Navidad,” “Christmas Jazz Chant,” “Merry Christmas Everyone,” “Jingle Bell Rock” and “All I Want for Christmas.” Melvin repeated his role as master of ceremony and was assisted by Jacqueline Saucedo.

The second through fifth grade classes performed the finale with a dance ("He Wants It All” by Forever Jones), dance and song (“What Christmas Means to Me” by Stevie Wonder), a skit ("Couch Potato Santa") and dance and rap (“Christmas Rap "by Curtis Blow). Hania Sauceda was the mistress of ceremony and Jacqueline did the welcoming.

Hundreds of parents showed their support with a strong turnout and applause as many in the audience moved into position to snap pictures of their loved ones. Superintendent M. Annette Cluff thanked everybody for showing up, announced that early class dismissal will be on Friday, wished everybody happy holidays and said classes will resume on Jan. 3. East Campus director Gayle Voltz also thanked the parents for their support.
