Pre-K4 and fifth-grade students earn graduation honors

East Campus celebrated the graduation of 90 Pre-k 4 students and 9 fifth graders during back-to-back ceremonies at the campus.

Aime Handu and Helen Torres shared the mistress of ceremony duties while students performed "Moving On," "Yesterday's Dream," "Big Earth, Little Me," "Connected," and the "ABC's of Kindergarten." A brief slide presentation of "Pre-K Memories" followed and then the ceremonial presentation of diplomas by Superintendent M. Annette Cluff and Campus Director Gayle Voltz.

Parents, family and friends packed the auditorium and flashed lots of pictures of their loved ones.

The fifth grade ceremony was a small, intimate affair. Graduating student Lauren Wilson captivated the small audience with her rendition of "The Climb" in an emotional performance that brought tears to eyes of Superintendent M. Annette Cluff and others. Lauren sang with spirit and power and earned a standing ovation after her stirring performance.

Mrs. Cluff also issued the book "Who's Who in Black Houston" to each fifth grade student. The superintendent recently was honored by being included in the book and having her picture on the cover. Mrs. Cluff told the graduating class members that she hopes the book will inspire them to earn a spot in a future "Who's Who" book some day.
