East campus students use math, attire to celebrate 100 days of school

About this time of year, students use symbols, math concepts and attire to celebrate 100 days of school.

The tradition was no different at The Varnett School East this week.

While the exercise is usually reserved for the younger students, fifth-graders in Ms. Eugenia De Lara's class joined the fun.

One-hundred days of school, roughly the halfway point of a full school year, challenges students to use their imagination to express their vision of the century mark.

Some of the fifth-graders donned symbols such as M2 or M Squared, with M meaning 10, and squared (times 10).

Many of the younger students matched their clothes with props to imitate someone who might look like a 100-year-old person. Other exercises challenge students to use math, reading and science to arrive at 100, and to have fun doing it.
