Cinco de Mayo at East Campus

About 60 parents joined colorfully-dressed students and staff to celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Friday, May 5.

Students at each grade level conducted performances with the accompaniment of Mariachi Real Mexicanisimo, a band from Houston. In addition to importing live music, the campus held a Mr. and Ms. Cinco de Mayo pageant. Families capped the celebration by posing for pictures.

Cinco de Mayo is annually observed on May 5. It celebrates the defeat of the French army during the Battle of Puebla (Batalla de Puebla) in Mexico on May 5, 1862. It is not to be confused with Mexico's Independence Day.

It is seen as a day to celebrate the culture, achievements and experiences of people with a Mexican background, who live in the United States.
