Third graders donate food for a Thanksgiving feast at a homeless shelter

Mrs. Wyatt’s 3rd grade class today gave back to the community in a big way. They collected 285 can goods school wide. The project started November 1 and ended today November 21.

The donations were given to Bay Area Homeless Services in Baytown, Texas. The Executive Director, William R. Eckert III, and employee Judy Osgood were here to accept the donations.

Mr. Eckert told the students there are six children in his shelter because they are in need of food and a safe home. He said the children would be impressed by the heart-felt project the 3rd graders had taken on.

The Bay Area Homeless Services works year-round to help provide just what these children and their families need. Mr. Eckert told the Varnett students he was grateful with their “giving back to the community “philosophy. He thanked the students for their kindness and generosity.

The third grade boys also helped load the canned goods to the vehicle. I am so proud of the support and commitment from parents who encouraged their children to donate to a worthy cause. May you and your family have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
